About Us

We are Bunny Boiler Productions!

(in case you hadn't guessed)

Bunny Boiler Productions is a Liverpool based theatre company that focuses on creating theatre centred around queer and female story lines. Originally started as an idea in an Asda café the group has now developed into a 7 person company with two shows under our belt.

Our first play The Lively Bird, was created on the Drama course at Liverpool John Moores University as a part of the Outburst Festival. The Lively Bird is a noir farce about a rundown jazz bar and the gangster that's trying to take it over. This gave us an opportunity to see if there was an audience for theatre centred around queer and female storylines and from here we knew Bunny Boiler would be possible within the wider world.

From the beginning we have taken inspiration from Takarazuka Revue, an all female Japanese theatre company that play with the idea of gender representation on stage in order to create a unique aesthetic to their shows. Whilst we don't have the same budget they do, we still use elements of drag and pageantry to create our own aesthetic and worlds to play in.

While we love creating our own work such as Shipmates, the false story of real life female pirates Anne Bonney and Mary Reed; we also love championing new writers. Tales of the Deep was a showcase in which seven actors and four writers came together to display their talents in front of a sold out audience. To be able to use our platform to showcase others was always a dream of ours and we can't wait to do it again in the future.

Our current work in progress is The Good, The Stoned and the Guilty,

a piece about three women who find themselves being accused of witchcraft in 17th century England. During 2024 we completed a weeks R&D at Liverpool's Royal Court in which we perfomed a short excerpt of the show infront of a selected audience.

Whether you've seen us before or your new to Bunny Boiler craze, we can't wait to have you along for the journey.

Below is the team who make it all happen!
